Herbal Tea- DIY herbal tea's its Benefits, and limitations.

People have been drinking tea since age old days.  Herbal tea is a great way to add in our diet for it's taste as well as its medicinal values. Regular consumption of these teas provide you with long term health benefits. So , Why to wait ? Replace your sugary and caffeinated drink with these herbal teas. I know its hard initially but at least replace one time of caffeinated drink with these beneficial beverages.

 Here, are few herbal teas, which I make at my home.

Lime tea :
Lemon Iced Tea With Lemon Fruits

It's an beverage which is tasty as well as a great vitamin c supplement. 
Preparation :
Take a big glass of water (200 ml) in a vessel and add jaggrey to it . Boil it for few  minutes. Add black tea powder and simmer for 15 seconds. Finally add lime juice after you put off the stove.

Benefits :
  • A great supplement of vitamin c.
  • Helps in maintaining weight.
  • Replenishes with fluid along with vitamins.
  • Controls the cravings to eat junk food .
  • Good for skin and hair.
  • Fights infections.
  • Prevents cancer.
Drink upto 2 glasses a day . Drinking alot may stain the teeth.

Ginger , Turmeric Tea :

Clear Drinking Glass Filled With Brown Liquid

Take a big glass of water in a vessel, add ginger slice to it and a pi ch of turmeric and boil for 5 minutes. Switch off the stove . Strain it and add honey and lemon for the added flavour.

Benefits :

  • Ginger is anti-inflammatory and reduces pain. It also relieves menstrual pain.
  • It helps in relieving nausea. Take this when you have motion sickness.
  • It may also help in people with diabetes.
  • Turmeric has anti inflammatory , antibacterial and anti viral properties.
  • Turmeric  strengthens our immune system.
If your suffering from bleeding disorders and on blood thinning medications such as ecosprin avoid this tea.
Note :
 People with diabetes can skip sugar.

Tulsi tea :
Tea in Cup
Take a big glass of water in a vessel ,add tulsi leaves and boil it . Strain and drink it .U can also add tulsi leaves to the ginger and turmeric tea.

  • Tulsi improves digestion. People suffering from GERD , acidity can feel better with symptoms.
  • Strengthens immune system.
  • Its great for skin and hair.
  • May treat Insomnia .

Cinnamon tea : 
Lemon Tea Served On Teacup
Take a glass of water in a vessel , add cinnamon powder to it and boil for 5 minutes. Put off the stove and add honey and little lemon juice .
Cinnamon adds in little sweetness so little honey is enough as a sweetener.

  • Cinnamon is known to reduce sugar levels and cholesterol levels.
  • It helps to keep weight in check.
Note :
Take this tea once a day. Alot of cinnamon has adverse effects.

These are teas which I prepare at home. You can also drink readily available teas in markets these days. Few of them are :

Green tea :

This is the common beverage used widely across the globe and most of them are aware of its benefits.

Benefits :
  • Its loaded with  antioxidants.
  • Lowers sugar levels
  • Stimulates fat burning.
  • Reduces risk of obesity
  • Improves brain function.
Note :
  • It has caffeine. Limit its intake to 3 cups a day.
  • Do not drink 3 hours before bed time. It hinders sleep.
  • Avoid in pregnancy.

Hibiscus tea :

  • It is loaded with antioxidants.
  • It lowers blood pressure
  • Lowers sugar levels.
  • Helps in people with  depression.
  • Helps in digestion.
  • Helps in weight management.
  • Helps in relieving periods cramps. 

Note : Consult doctor before taking this tea as it should not be taken when on chloroquine medication ( anti malarial medication) and interfere with other medications .

Lemon Grass Tea :
Benefits :

Helps in digestion.
Increases Metabolism.
Relieves menstrual cramps.
Good for skin and hair.
Great anti-oxidant.

Note : If you are allergic to lemon grass, do not take it as some experience allergic symptoms.

Mint Tea :

  • Helps in detoxification of Liver.
  • Relieves Stress , anxiety promoting relaxation.
  • Fights Halitosis(Bad Breath)
  • Helps in Weight loses.
  • Helps in sound sleep.

Note: Even though mint helps in digestion for people with GERD( Gastro Intestinal Re flux Disease)  it aggregates the symptoms.
If you are pregnant over intake mint leads increase in uterine contractions therefore avoid in pregnancy.


To conclude, add herbal tea in your life according to your needs and reap its health benefits. also, be aware of its limitations and avoid according. Go through full blog to know when to avoid or limit .
